I am sitting here right at the moment, listening to laughing, playing games, a guitar, yelling, wrestling………it’s all going on right now in this house with 6 children that are not my own, along with my four. They are Layton’s school mates, 14-15 year range in years. I called my sis who is a little ahead of me in the ‘teen’ stuff and thought she could really give me an ear with some real sympathy. And, it ended up being the complete opposite, I needed that! I began with, I don’t even know these kids, had no idea they were even coming, they are eating me out of house and home, I have never even met their parents, on and on and on……….
Jenay said in a way that she knew I would hear her loud and clear…….YOU PRAYED FOR THIS CALLING even when Layton was just little. You prayed that they would be all coming to your house, you built that basement for this exact scenerio, now BUCK up and SERVE these kids and be grateful they are in your home and not trying to get Layton to go elsewhere.
So, I am and do………I am grateful to the Lord for bringing these kids into our home. I pray we can speak into their lives…….I am feeding these kids and enjoying watching them shove it down. (this is what teen boys do….SHOVE IT DOWN!)
Thank you Lord for this opportunity to serve these kids who don’t know you. I pray we are Jesus with skin on…… us to bless not only their physical needs like warmth, food, but also their spirit, and may they leave here wanting to come back because they see something that attracts them right to the heart of You the Father.
Thanks sis for the reminder…..

Shauna - That is good! So easy to “miss” our mission field! Keep feeding and loving – you will miss it when it is gone (at least that is what people say, right?!). 🙂

Jenay - You do a beautiful job. We all need a reminder at times. It is not as glamorous as it sounds…but the payoff is HUGE in the long run…not only in our lives and our kids’ lives, but the friends. God LOVES these boys very much and that is why He brought them to YOUR house.

Love ya,

Tawnya - Yes Marlece having just raised and graduated Seth we had high school kids running in and out of our house constantly. Rick and I didn’t even have our living room because the teenagers had it. Lots of hot dogs, chips totina pizza rolls, soda and of course anything edible along with guitar hero. It was not easy, but worth it. Our house was not ours. I am glad you called Jenay because she is in the middle of it. Rick and I opened our home and it was definitely challenging. So for me you would have had my complete sympathy.

Laurel - Love this post! Just found your blog, and look forward to reading more.

I, too, always prayed that my house would be where the teens would want to hang out … and it has been. I had my first 6 children in 6 years … which means that we had 6 teenagers at once. Now … they are all young adults. But … I have 7 more coming up to take their places.

I LOVE having my house FULL of teens and young adults. Last summer I had 12 of my kids living at home at the same time (3 were home from overseas mission fields). So, we also had a LOT of their friends over day and night. Couldn’t make this Mama more happy.

Bring on the teens. Empty the refrig. Empty the cookie jar. I’ll do whatever it takes to share the love of Jesus with the next generation.

I couldn’t ask for better relationships with any of my 6 young adult children. Thank you Jesus … for giving me the wisdom and insight to love them through their teen years.
