a servants heart

I have to share my kid’s heart! These are things that make a Momma sigh and give thanks. Our neighbors went on a vacation for two weeks to Hawaii! When they left the day after we had a beautiful day outside and their two horses went out to lay down and sun themselves a bit. Enjoy a little vitamin D. I think we were all feeling like we wanted to do the same thing! The only thing is, the neighbors older horse, Lilly, was having some arthritic issues and could not get up. After a good day of trying to get her up with meds, pulling and prodding, she tried, we tried but could not get her up! We called the vet and he gave her a good dose of some anti-inflammatory. We prayed that was the key to her GETTING UP! And she did and we rejoiced. We wanted to make sure she would stay up until neighbors got home and then they could decide what to do for her.

This is where my son came in….he diligently got up early every morning to help me doctor Lilly with meds and before we went to bed at night. Brayden brushed her down to make her ‘feel better’ and he cleaned the barn immaculately! I asked him why and he said, “because he knew they were going to have to make some hard decisions when they got home and he wanted them to not have to think about anything but that. And a clean barn always makes you feel better.” I teared up thinking this is EXACTLY what I want my kids to learn…to serve when you see a need, with nothing in return, just love, this is a servants heart.

Our neighbors did come home and were grateful. They did have to allow Lilly to have relief from pain. It was a sad day and we mourned with our friends over their loss.

Linking up with Jen and friends today.

Jenay - That’s Brayden!!! Doesn’t suprise me a bit, but it warms my heart to read it and learn about it. Love that kid. He has a tender heart, I know you have taught him well, but that quiet gentle spirit that does something and only explains WHEN ASKED, is his dad through and through!!!

Lady Rose - Marlece,

Your “little boys” are certainly growing up into young men of God. It’s lovely to see children who want to serve with willing hearts and not gruding ones.

I think some of us adults (like me) can learn and also be humbled by this lesson as well.
