My oldest baby turns 16 years old…

SIXTEEN year old, Layton James, it’s hard to believe my first baby is that old!I became a Momma and my life changed drastically. I will forever have a job, a title, a love that I never knew before I had a baby to care for.

I put this picture up of Layton because when he was just itty bitty he was all about equipment, tractors, he knew the names of them and what they did when he first learned to talk and to this day he loves sitting on a tractor.

Layton has always found something he is passionate about and goes all the way with it. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up. I love his intensity and his drive for those things that he loves to do. This is anything from dirt bike racing, to bow hunting, to WHATEVER the case may be.

Layton does have a strong discerning spirit about him. He, again, since he was just a young tot could sense the Holy Spirit. I love this gifting the Lord has given him.

I was just talking to my Mom on the phone about that day he was born and got some great laughs. That whole birthing experience the first time is just that, ALL NEW.You have nothing to gauge it by and it’s such an innocent time. I remember all the sisters and my Mom were here sitting on my couch timing my contractions as we were waiting for Jim to get home from work and they were getting closer and closer and they wanted to get me to the hospital and have Jim meet us there. I wasn’t having it, NO WAY! I learned that this is a time when I NEED MY MAN and nothing or nobody will do. When we were rushing to the hospital with sisters and Mom following behind in car, we had a name picked out, Layton Ray (after his uncle, brother, and my sister), inbetween contractions I said, “Jim, I think we should change his name to Layton James.” Jim said I had no sense in me to be making decisions like that at the moment and we dropped it. After Layton was born the doc asked, “What’s his name?” I said, “LAYTON JAMES” and I look over at Jim with big ‘ole alligator tears coming from his eyes. It was a sweet moment and one decision I am glad I made in the midst of it all.

At last but not least Layton is an official driver today. He couldn’t be happier, in fact for his picture on his license he was trying sooooo hard to be serious but moving away from that camera that smile came on so big he couldn’t help himself. Ok, enough said about this for now, I am a little anxious.

Happy birthday first born, I love you!

Lady Rose - Marlece,

What a lovely tribute to your son.

I like the “before and after” pictures of him on the tractor. That’s too cute. It was also interesting to read the brief details about your birthing story, and how your son received his name.
