Thanksgiving 2011

Do you know how you can just see the hand of God in something so strongly? I have seen this in the past couple of days and our Father is just so good.

A few days ago I was voicing to my friend that AGAIN my family was not going to be in the same place at the same time for Thanksgiving and I was really upset about it. This is, by far, my favorite holiday. We made a rule years ago that we would always be together for this one occasion and since then it hasn’t happened. Someone was not in the mix for this reason or another. I love being with my parents, my sisters, the brother inlaw’s and I think most of all watching ALL the cousins be together. I love eating together. This is one holiday that there is no set agenda and is so relaxing. But, as my friend pointed out to me, “I have been saying the same thing for years now and I need to accept that we aren’t able to be together so this is the new norm and I need to stop looking back and look forward to what is yet to come.” And she, in all her wisdom, was right.

This year my sis Jenay and my family were going to be together. We expected that Niece Lashae and husband were going to be able to be there. We got word on Monday that is was not going to be the case for her and husband Chaney for he could not get off of work. Ohhhhhh, Lashae was upset, her sis Chars was so upset they spent a day praying and fasting so that God would make sure they could be together. I didn’t know that part when I was hearing all of this and decided to call Jim in Palm Springs where he is working and asked him if maybe instead of a 5 hour drive to Oregon to see Jenay we would all go on an adventure to Montana, 10 hour drive, to go right to Lashae’s house!!! He agreed. This was a big deal, for he hadn’t been home for a couple of weeks now.He was  not only going to get to miss coming home, but go right from a plane to a 10 hour drive! He said he didn’t like all the tears, it sounded to him like we had to go. I called Jenay and to her surprise and the by the next morning the plan was we were going to MONTANA!!!

It was a great trip. I hate long car rides, HATE it….but we did quite well and we did have fun. We ate, we played games, we played in the snow, the boys hunted, cousins that live there came by so we got to see them too. The best part again, is watching those kids play together, young and old. I love it all!

It wasn’t the same but different was special and good all the same. I love that niece of mine and so glad we got to spend time with her.

LASHAE BOWEN, oops, eating a little snow!

Those girls….

Can I get enough of this? NO!

Jordan is all smiles!

Oh my goodness, look how we are cracking each other up! Maezie, she is so darling….

Anonymous - I love this! I cried when you told me how you were going and I love looking at the pictures of it all! But wait, there’s no Lashae picture and it was her tears that instigated the whole trip!! You need a picture of that girl on here! So glad you had a great time and also so glad that you’re back safe my wonderful friend!

Mama D.'s Dozen - Sounds like a wonderful trip!

I, too, LOVE to have the family together. We don’t have any close extended family, but it is hard enough to get our young adult kids all together. It’s been years, actually … we didn’t even have them them all together for any of the 3 weddings this past year. Sad Mama!

We have gone to OR for the past 20 Thanksgivings. This year, we too had to change our plans. But … we made the best of it and created some FUN new memories, by renting a cabin at Mt. Baker for the weekend. A fun time was had by all, even though we were missing our big kids.

I’m sure Lashae had a LOT of HAPPY TEARS when she found out you all were headed her way.

Laurel 🙂

Love you much! Seasons do change and I guess it makes those times of togetherness all the more sweeter! Looking forward to some summer sweetness.
