A teenager, a mother, a request, trying to come thru, one way thinking, and say it isn’t so…..does any of that make sense to you? Well me either, and this is how my mind goes at times raising this teenager who keeps my mind reeling all of the time! Have you ever had a party but acting like you didn’t DURING the party?
This weekend, we had a big bon fire so Layton invited a few friends to come share in the moment.Layton made it pretty clear he wanted me to stay out of it, this was HIS deal. I called sister before hand and ran it by her and she said, “I know what you are thinking, you want to make food, get it all teenage friendly in your basement, prepare some games, you know, make it all what you think would be fun!” I said, “YES. I. DO.!” Basically we decided I needed to back off and let him do his thing. Ok, ok…..
So, what did I do? I had to make dinner right? I just made enough to cover 15 or so people. I wasn’t going to tell in a “DINNER IS READY” kind of way, but just kind of sneak that fact in. This is when texting comes in handy or a little brother that is eager to eat and tell. I informed Jordan to go announce he was going to go eat dinner and I texted Brayden to let him know too, and he could, ‘if he wanted’ to mention this to the others that there was enough if anyone was hungry.
I put paper plates out with forks, pop with plastic cups, and put all the food in the oven to stay warm, JUST IN CASE! I removed myself from the kitchen. Brayden, Corvan, and Jordan came up to eat and then as they were serving themselves up I told them to go ahead and take their plates down to the fire and eat it there! That would be fun! A little manipulation, I KNOW, I KNOW!!!
Ten minutes later here comes the troops. They scarfed it down and loved it. I tried to stay out of their way, they were all very kind and thanked me for the food.
The next morning, several of the kids stayed over. I didn’t prepare beds or anything, I let them deal all on their own. I was doing my best to not get in the way AGAIN. I really wanted to get on that treadmill down stairs but they were sleeping in so I decided to make breakfast. Enough for everybody, put it in the oven, but again, didn’t tell anybody, Layton made it clear to leave him alone, remember? (of course, I am so glad that they found it in themselves to not starve the night before over Layton not wanting me to be involved, just sayin’!)
They all got up, I had put breakfast in the oven, and as they sat there starring at the tv with their greasy heads and tired faces I smiled without words and ran down the stairs to get on the treadmill. I was into it about a mile, and Layton shows up, “MOM! They are all hungry and I thought you might make us some breakfast?” Now, this was with almost a TEAR about ready to be released from his eye….I said, “OH REALLY?” I jumped off that treadmill and ran up to the kitchen, pulled out the massive food I made, and WAHHHLAAAA, “Breakfast is ready!” (two minutes flat) They were all amazed and grateful!
Anyway, being undercover as the party host is a tough job!
I contemplated, oh I want to take a picture, should I or shouldn’t I? Hey, I made them breakfast they can handle a picture, right?
