Roxy

Layton asked me several months ago if we could take in a dog that some people that he knows didn’t want. I told him no, we already have two other dogs and do not need another!

A couple of weeks ago Layton tells me that this dog and two other dogs got lost in the woods and his friend had been searching for them for a couple of weeks. Lo and behold they showed up very skinny and scared but they showed up.

Layton went to visit them and found the dog he was asking to keep, up on a hill too weak to even get down to get food or water. The other two were gaining and doing well. He asked if he could take the dog home to see if he could save her.

I’m taking a shower and Layton comes bursting thru the door to tell me to hurry up he had a surprise waiting. In my head I’m thinking, “it’s that damn dog!”

My heart instantly went out. I didn’t think she would make it thru the night.  Skin and bones…..We put a heat lamp on her, poured pedialyte down her throat, got up in the night to do it again. She loved to be loved on, but no energy she was so sick…..

Two days later after nursing her along pretty strongly I headed to the barn to feed the animals early in the morn and she walked right along with me, I had made her some rice (with a little gravy) and when she wouldn’t touch it before she gobbled it right up! By that evening she was wagging her tail and showing some interest in playing with the kids.

Did I mention WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER DOG? But, what do you do when something like this comes into your care….you take care of them.

Let me introduce to you….. Roxy!

Brandee Shafer - She looks like a beagle. I love a beagle very best: such perfect hearts. Only thing about them is that they’ll always take off after a rabbit or deer; they’ll never just hang in the yard. I get the sense you’re away from the road, so it’ll be fine. She’ll be a faithful companion.
